Pioneer Day Highlights

Pioneer Day Highlights
We decided to commemorate Pioneer Day with a firework show with Art and Evelyn and kids. Everything felt how summer should feel. It was warm and shady. The sun was slowly setting. The kids were laughing and playing. Slowly, more neighbors trickled out of their homes to join in on the fun. Another neighbor decided to join in--the neighbor's dog! He couldn't wait to get his paws on the fireworks. He was in such a hurry--he made a mad dash from the garage door to the sparkling box of fire. He didn't bother sniffing or exploring. He saw what he wanted, he grabbed it with his jaws, then he madly ran back towards the house to enjoy the hot treat. We all started screaming in horror, and Parker and Ellie started crying hysterically. The neighbor's brother (or someone) got the firework out of the dog's mouth and threw it back to the street before the lawn caught fire. The dog went for it AGAIN! This time I got a picture. The guy got it from the dog again, and got the dog with the now melted fur back in the house. We reassured our crying children that the dog was OK, and spent the rest of the night slapping ourselves for not turning on the video camera...it would've been a serious candidate for America's Funniest Home Video.
The next night, we turned on the baby monitors and went outside to light a few more. I think Joe and Art were seriously hoping for a reenactment. When we were done, Joe had the brilliant idea of lighting the firework box and creating a bonfire. Firework-flavored roasted marshmallows...yummy!

Oh man, you did get a picture of the dog! So funny! I still feel bad though. Duane said that he didn't eat for like 2 days! Poor doggy! Both nights were super fun!

What a great story, one for the books. My children love fireworks and so do I, what a great holiday.

I like how you tile the pictures like that. I can't believe that dog, most are so scared of fireworks. My girls would have been very worried about the dog and crying and all too.

I do get jealous of all of you guys in Utah because Utah has all of these fun small town stuff that you can go to and have fun at.

That poor dog!! I can just see all you guys screaming and the kids getting all worried and crying. Glad all is well. Leave it to Joe to find a use for an empty fireworks box. You're going to have to haul the Big Green Egg out to the middle of the street for a street BBQ.

Dumb dog! I read Evelyn's comment and saw that he didn't eat for two days! Oh, man! That will teach him to never do that again! Yeah, too bad you didn't have your video camera. There's always next year!

Looks like lots of firework fun!! It's funny because it reminds me of when Sadie first held a sparkler...she tried to grab the sparkle part!!!

Oh boy do I love summer!

Scary! I'm glad no one got hurt. Too bad the kids got scared though.

And the post before about taking the Trax to downtown was HILARIOUS!! I laughed all the way through. Good job though, for running the marathon! You are such a trooper!

That is so crazy! I am a little afraid of fireworks. My friend in highschool got burned during a roman candel war. But he was kind of an idiot.

Fireworks can be so stressful, they rank right up there with pinatas at a kids birthday party and you don't even realize it till your right in the middle of it. Looks like you all had a good time and I am also glad the pooch survived!!

We used to have a neighbor with a black lab that would fetch EVERYTHING. One year we came home from the festivities and found her chained to a lamp pole (they were out of town), apparently she had been fetching lit fireworks...she ended up sleeping over inside our house!!! Poor dogs, they just don't know how to stop fetching everything!!!

What a GREAT story and too bad about the video camera! Oh well. I guess your fame will just have to be limited to this blog. :-)

To bad you didn't have your video camera going. I can't believe the dumb dog did it twice! The dog could have burned the house down as well. It just goes to show that you never know what a day will bring. I never have liked fireworks in the street. I have always felt it was too dangerous. I hope the kids are ok. OH Happy belated birthday. That was a nice blog from Kimberly. Sisters are the best huh. I always wanted for my girls to have what I have with my sisters.
