What August 1st Means To Me

(Joe blogging)
On August 1, 1980, the love of my life came into this world. I remember clearly the first day I met Robyn. I thought to myself, "She's beautiful and capable." 'Capable' was the best word I could think of. She speaks Finnish and Spanish; she's participated in multiple study-abroads; she's a beautiful singer; she exercises regularly; she worked all through college to help pay for school; she served a mission; she's a wonderful cook (that won me over very early on!); and so on, and so on. But beyond all of these awesome qualities, what attracted me to Robyn the most is the way she makes you feel when you talk to her. She listens to you and has a genuine interest in what you have to say. She has a way of putting you at ease when you talk with her. I think this partly explains why she has so many friends that she still keeps in touch with. After our first meeting, I knew I wanted to get to know her better. She (reluctantly at times) cooperated with my plan and here we are today, 3 years happily married with a kid and 1/3 to show for it. Happy Birthday, Robyn! I love you!

I think Joe should have emphasized how hard you were to catch...Luckily, your sister set you straight and three years later you have me to thank (ha ha). I hope your birthday was great and magical!

I hated it when Joe told me he was attracted to me because I was "capable." I thought that seemed so boring and unromantic. Reading his post made it sound a lot better, though. What a cute guy, eh? And yes, thank you Kimberly....it's all because of you! (ha ha) I'm a lucky girl and YES birthdays are still magical!

Capable?! Ok Joe, it's a good thing you said that she is the love of your life...that is much more romantic than "capable". I had to laugh at Robyn's response because I remember one of our family news letters many years ago where I made the comment that "Robyn loves to read". She thought that made her sound boring too. I'm a little bummed that you used that picture though...I was hoping to use it at some later date. Maybe I still will...it is actually the first picture I ever saw of you!! Thanks for the fun blog...love ya!

Joe, what a great tribute to my wonderful, beautiful, talented, grand daugher. I have been really happy with your choices in life. I think "capable" is a great way to describe her. I remember when I was young and lived in a dream world sort of the one thing that I hated to be called was SWEET. To me being sweet was just a way to describe an ugly girl or a way to describe a no personality type of person. Isn't it funny the images we get in our mind. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBYN AND I HOPE IT WAS GREAT. You are anything but boring.

I'm glad that your 1/3 of a baby is floating along side the blog entry. It really makes things...magical. PS, you still have my leftovers. I hope they aren't eaten when I come over.

(smile) You and Kim have awesome voices, and I love our fun songs we made up together. I sing them to my kids and they run around the house singing them. Ya'll are awesome and I miss our times together singing and having fun! hope to see you all soon.
