It was JUST BREAD!

Parker and I have been sick all week with colds (he has an ear infection). Perfect timing...right before the baby is born! Last night I really needed to go to the store, but Joe had a meeting which got out a lot later than he'd planned. He offered to go to Sam's Club for me on his way home, so I willingly agreed. My body ached, I'd spent the ENTIRE day scrubbing the house (which I'll probably feel the urge to do again if the baby doesn't get here in the next few days), Parker was super grumpy all night, etc. So my hormones had already reached their limit. Poor Joe was definitely not prepared for what happened when he got home from the store.

I guess I have to explain something first--sorry if this gets a little too personal! I am pretty uptight about the things we eat in this house. We don't eat anything white...just whole grains/wheat. We're talking tortillas, pancakes, waffles, bread, pasta, rice, etc. My main motivation for this is that I got hemorrhoids REALLY bad after having Parker. Using the bathroom was worse than giving birth to a child. I'm not kidding. Anyway, I live in FEAR of that happening again, so fiber is VERY important to me! I also look at other things on the label and avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup and some other silly things.

Joe got home and told me that they didn't have the bread I like, so he'd gotten another kind of "wheat bread". I took one look at the label and started bawling! Sure, the label says "wheat," but there is also less than 1 gram of fiber (not to mention the high fructose corn syrup--which he actually had looked for on the label, but didn't care). It didn't matter that he'd gotten everything else right...I was livid. I cried over the stupid bread for probably an hour...even all through our recorded American Idol. Luckily I have a super easy-going, doesn't-like-to-fight husband who is used to my raging pregnancy hormones. I woke up this morning feeling pretty stupid about the whole thing and finally decided not to be mad at him anymore. Do you think he'll go to the store for me again anytime soon?

I'm so sorry to laugh at your pain, but that is hilarious! I'm sure it wasn't at the time...I've been there though! I, too, try to have only whole grains, no fructose, etc. mainly just for health reasons. But when you add pregnancy hormones and a full-term pregnancy with a husband who doesn't quite get it, you're asking for a meltdown! It will be funny in few days and you'll be glad you blogged it. Love ya!

That is so funny! I remember crying one time after Dad did the laundry. He was trying to help me, but it backfired. He did it just like his mom did and put EVERYTHING in the dryer. My favorite velour jumper came so small it could have fit a third grader. Needless to say, I had a meltdown. Dad didn't touch the washing machine for years.

You're going to have to punish Joe and make him eat the whole loaf. That'll teach him.

I remember Paul doing the laundry when I was pregnant and he dried things that werent supposed to be dried and I was so mad at him for days. Even now, he will not touch the laundry. Its a joke between us now but at the time it was huge! Hang in there!
I had no idea it was a girl so Im so excited for you....maybe I did know and I just forgot. Anyway, best of luck and have fun. Girls are sooooo sweet.

I read your lasted post out loud to Matthew, and he couldn't stop laughing. Not at you, but at the fact that I am the same way when I am pregnant, and he too, is a very easy going, would rather not fight guy who just goes with the flow. I hope the post pregnancy bathroom trips are better around this time than last. Can't wait to til the new little one gets here!

I am laughing but feel your pain. Let's just say Preparation H was my best friend during my last pregnancy. But I wasn't as devoted as you with my diet. I just drank lots and lots of water. :-)

Poor Joe! One good thing from this is that from now on he will know exactly what to look for and will, most likely, never make the same mistake again!

Thank you for the grave details about your hemorrhoid issues. I can't believe it made you cry all through American Idol. I hope that you had the ugly cry face (which I still haven't seen, btw). Maybe that's the real reason I've been stearing clear of your house...jk. If you're lucky, I'll come see you this weekend.

Ahhh... what the heck is my excuse... maybe I'm pregnant too! Please, no! I think it's partly due to this cruddy January weather!!! One time I freaked out when I was pregnant with Ellie because I sent Art to get Eggo's and he came back with the store brand... I made him go back to the freakin store!

Oh my gosh Robyn you are really running true to your inherited gene pool. When Uncle Owen Smoot died in 1949, it was in Novemeber and I was due in January with Gary well this was the days when they put the casket in the home with the dimmed lights and I looked at him and I started to cry and cry and cry and the funny thing was I wasn't crying over him or anyone it was just meeeee. My harmones must have really been raging because I cried the rest of the day and all through the funeral and Nobody could console me. Everyone just kind of looked the other way. Joe is wonderful to see you through this time and besides he has a job to go to an doesn't have to really be around this all of the time. POOR HUSBANDS!!!!!!

So funny! I told Chris about this post and he was cracking up saying "you used to do that stuff to me all the time when you were pregnant!" So you're not the first one to be a raving lunatic and assure Joe that it will go away and he's not the first!

Oh Robyn, I'm sorry! I know the feeling, Poor Todd goes through the same thing with me. If I don't do it myself it doesn't get done right no matter if it's cleaning the kitchen-He never wipes down the counters or sweeps the floor - and leaves pots in the sink if it doesn't fit in the dishwasher (He wont touch the bathrooms), feeding the kids, making the bed, buying groceries, and even getting the kids dressed. He knows how I like it, but he doesn't care it's his way or forget it. So like I said I FEEL YOUR PAIN.... (smile)

Love ya

You're almost there!!! (with baby) YEA!!!

I LOVE pregnancy hormones!!! I think it's God's way of making men feel somewhat of the pain we deal with when we're pregnant! I'm the same way with fibre, except whitney's our constipated one in the fam (though every once in a while i feel her pain!) hang in there, you're almost done!

That is awesome! Joe was "toast" after he bought the wrong bread.

Jen and I will be laughing for ten minutes now. Thanks. We can barely afford any reasonable entertainment, so we read your blog weekly.

Love you guys!

Robyn,
Can you say "Herbal Fiber Blend".
It cures any and all constipation.
Hemorhoids will never, ever, occur when you take that stuff.
Also, don't forget to take your apple cider vinegar with the mother in it.
Do you need anymore of my home remedies?
I love you sweetie.
See you after the baby is born.
Love ya,
Dad

Oh, Robyn - I feel your pain on the whole post-baby fiber need. (TMI coming) but I had to have surgery to correct the post-babyness problems brought on in the nether-regions. FIBER is critical.

And meltdowns this close to your due date are entirely acceptable. I can't wait to see pics of this baby girl!!!

I have been very fortunate in the after having a baby and not ever experienced that! I even had no idea that fiber would help. Although I am really not too much of a health nut. Just out of curiosity I would love to know the deal with high fructose corn syrup...i try to avoid it but i don't really know why. You are such a health nut now....I need you to rub off on me. It seems like every week when I try to diet....i just eat worse! I would love to know what other 'silly' things you avoid!
