More Poop

Disclaimer #1: We've already established that I have no problem talking about poop. Want proof? Go here, here, or here.

Disclaimer #2: What I am about to tell you means that we will probably be talking A LOT about poop in the near future.

Are you ready for it?

PARKER POOPED IN THE POTTY TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!!!!!

Disclaimer #3: This doesn't mean I'm ready to REALLY start the potty-training process. Meaning: 24-hour car ride to Nashville next week. Stopping every 10 minutes for potty breaks? Don't think so.

Disclaimer #4: I have no idea what I'm doing. Advice needed? Desperately!

Gooooo Parker! Way to go bud, that's awesome! Good luck with potty training... no advice as my own mother did it for me!

Great Picture!!! That should go in a magazine. Good luck with everything. Learn lots of great tricks and then pass them along to me!!

Check my blog for official stories as they happened. But, the best advice I can give you is the best advice that I recieved. And that is... Wait until HE is ready. I did this with Ryan and he was trained within a week, and accident free within a month. He even goes several nights without pull-ups now.

Looks like everyone is headed in the right direction. I love the reading material.

I can't even begin to describe the horrors of potty training in my house so I'm totally not qualified to give advice! The first poop is a major milestone though and I hope for your sake it means Parker has this pottying thing down! Once Zack pooped the first time he had no problems, it was getting the first poop that was a nightmare. And Katie is a whole other story! Congrats and good luck with your trip!

I wish we could skip the training step and one day they would just wake up and be trained! Wouldn't it be great!

I think the poop in the potty is huge. But it could be a fluke too. I'm with Jen.. you have to wait until HE wants to do it. I worked with Spencer relentlessly at 2, 2 and 1/2 and to no avail. Finally right after his 3rd birthday, he just wanted to. Ethan was an entirely different story. I had to force him to at 3 and 1/2 so he could go to pre school.

This is how I trained both boys... I took diapers and everything off. Let em run in the buff. After the first accident, they know to run to the potty. Spencer was trained COMPLETELY in 2 days. Even night trained. Ethan took 4 days. Your kind of housetrapped, but it really works. I would NOT however attempt the training before your trip.

Good luck with the 24 hour drive...yikes...that sounds..fun?? crazy?? stressful?? Wowza..I'm sure there's going to be some blogging about that!

P.S. I really love how Parker has his sippy cup and reading material! He ready to kick back and spend some time!

Yeah Parker!!!! And congratulations to you too, Robyn! Although it could be a long process, you have now moved closer to less diapers/pull-ups to buy. Aidan has been "potty-training" for months now. We have good days and bad days. Boys tend to take a while in general to train, but a rewards system has worked well for us. We've tried lots of different "rewards" and I advise against any kind of sweet reward like candy or marshmallows, because trying to get Aidan to go without those was hard. What I like is getting a jar and some marbles and every time he goes in the potty he gets to put a marble in the jar. You can put lines on the jar as markers of accomplishment or wait til it's filled up, but when it's filled to a line or the top, Aidan gets to go to the dollar store and pick out a prize.

Good luck and keep us posted on his progress...oh, and we're thinking of naming this new baby Parker...is name stealing ok?

Glad to see he is prepared to be there a Looooonnnng time. You can't be too prepared. One must have a sippy cup and a good book in order to endure the task of pooping on the potty.

you know how i feel about this...

Ugh. Potty training is my single most dreaded responsibility as a mother. My daughter refused to poop in the potty until she was 3.5 years old! My son did it for an entire week after he turned 2 but has since decided it's much easier to just go in his diaper.

My biggest advice? Encourage but don't push it if they're not ready. We tried to push my daughter to train before she started preschool and it was met with huge resistance and power struggles.

WOOHOO Parker!! We have found it all goes best when THEY are ready:) Don't rush it and buy plenty of pull-ups to fully enjoy that trip!

Here's my potty training advice: Do nothing. Seriously. THEY will tell you when they're ready to go. Some people feel the need to suddenly decide when it's time. And then they spend the next two weeks at home, asking their kid every four minutes if they need to go potty. My method was literally do nothing. When they start asking to go, put them in a pull-up, reward very excitedly when they go, but don't do more than that. Otherwise it's YOU that ends up being trained, not them.

Plus, it saves you having to throw away peed/pooped in undies. Because, really, who washes them???

Looks like Christie and I are on the same page, but I've already told you that before!

Cute picture, and that is why you have kids while you are young....good luck, it will all work out for sure at least by the time he hits Junior High!

First of all that is such a CUTE picture!!

My advice is do not push let him do it in his own time on his own terms. I have have found that if you let them do it when they are ready things go so much easier on you and the child. When my kids were ready we didn't do pull ups or even diapers at night we went from diapers to underwear and all three did great we haven't had any accidents, which is way I don't potty train until they are close to three. That is what worked for me but every child is different. As for traveling we would take a little potty with us every where we went. FUN times. So glad I am DONE with that stage. GOOD LUCK!!!

P.S. the curlers are at Sally's Beauty Supply and the are called curlformers, the look like spirals and they are a little pricy but I LOVE them I even put them in my hair on friday and LOVED it.

Congrats on the first poop! For us that was the hardest milestone to reach in the potty training stuff. Both of mine, like many have said, were potty trained when they were ready. Good luck! Hooray for the day when you have just one in diapers!!!

Max pooped the other day in the potty too! I was so excited, so he kept trying to push and was making his face turn red. I'm not getting my hopes up either, but it's a good first step. Maybe they should get together and encourage each other!

I have to agree with so many others here, when he's ready it's so much easier. Brenden is finally wanting to do it on his own and it's so much less fighting and whining. He loves to go to the potty now. He doesn't actually have anything come out yet, but I reward the effort so he gets excited about it.

Congrats Parker! My advice is pretty simple they will do it when their ready and not before. Good Luck boys are harder than girls in my book.

Okay so I've tried to potty train Keira 3 times now and have failed. She has no interest whatsoever. I've decided to let her tell me when she's ready. So as far as advice goes, I have none. In fact I still do pull-ups at night for Tanner. So you are definitely ahead of the game with Parker.

Go Parker!!! My experience has been that I don't have to know what I'm doing, potty-training just kinda happens whenever the kid decides it's time. All you can do is prepare yourself to handle and be patient with accidents. They're gonna happen... a lot probably... usually at exactly the wrong place and moment... it's cool.

I was just thinking that its getting close to start working with Abby but I SOOOOO dread it.
But way to go little man!!!
