Preschool Dropout

Sad, but true. As of today, Parker is an official preschool dropout. After months of denial, I finally owned up to the reality that my 2-year-old doesn't belong in the same class as 4-and 5-year-olds. Better luck next time, little buddy. As much as I hate "missing out," sometimes it's the only option. Is there still hope for the future? Hope so...I'm looking at the bright side!
  • No more sleepless Thursday nights preparing for my Friday morning turn.
  • No more Parker-hysteria as he's forced to share his toys with 5+ others.
  • No more forcing Parker to sit still to "learn" when all he wants to do is play. Playing is learning, right?
  • No more feeling like a failure because Parker's not writing his name like the 4-year-old.
  • No more feeling sorry for myself when Parker's left out. He's an oblivious-I-still-love-solo-play two-year-old. Why can't I be so oblivious?
  • No more Friday-from-10-12 commitments.

Play date, anyone?

He's not an official drop out until he reaches pre-school age..right? I say, we're in school way too long anyway...let him play until he's 6...And enjoy your Thursday nights again...:)

Fer real, what Erin said. Two is a bit early for writing his name. If you wanna teach a two year old, it has to be a lot of fun and short games. Like bathtub letters and colored writing soap! :)

I'm all for play dates! Although I don't think Tristan will be too fun for Parker yet. :P

Sounds like you needed to get him outta there. Wanna come to Cedar City tomorrow?

I figure these little guys have years and years and years of school ahead of them. A little longer just playing will be good for them!!

PS - My profile on Facebook is under Rachelle McClure Stevens. I put in Robyn Gadd and there were tons, but I will try again. Oh, I do have a photo on mine. It is the same family photo that is on my blog

Oh well. I say take it easy while you can. Once your kids really start school life gets so much more hectic and crazy. Enjoy the simpler, less stressful life of school and stuff while you can. Besides, I don't know any other 2-year old who can recite "where the wild things are," do you?

No worries Robyn, really, in a few years if you do it again you and Parker will BOTH love it, and look forward to it.

What a relief! Better a preschool drop out at the age of two than to have preschool burn out in Kindergarten. Enjoy your new found freedom!

Hey no worries...sometimes we think our kids need something that they really don't. I remember with Meghan I had her in Preschool that cost us a ton of money every month and she hated it...and I hated it, and we dropped out too! Life's too short for these worries! Hey heard you're doing the Utah Ragnar - you'll truly enjoy the experience! I wish I were doing it! BTW will you give me your e-mail so I can add you, I thought I had it but I'm not sure I got it right.

You can always meet me at the gym at 9 am for a little "Boot Camp" playdate. We don't even have to watch our kids.

Awwww... you are awful!! Parker did great! I'm so sad he won't be there anymore. Now Ellie will be the youngest... Maybe we'll drop out!!

Way to go Robyn! I'm all about drop-outs (although I can't bring myself to take Max out...we are gonna tough it out for a couple more month)! Parker will learn just fine without going to pre-school on Friday's:)

Aw, don't sweat it! Carson is about to turn 4 and is in preschool. He is the only one that can't spell his name. I didn't really care about that stuff with Connor until the year before kindergarten. Give him a couple of years and he'll be a preschool star!

Sidenote, I couldn't place where I had seen your friend Aly's picture before. She follows another friend's blog that I also follow. Small world.

Don't worry, give him another 10-15 years and he will be okay...no really I think we always expect too much of the firstborn but there is no way around it. They are our test model so we can figure out what to do on the next kids.
